SolaCom will provide the GAIA with a turnkey solution that includes 11 touch screen operator positions, 32 radio interfaces and 30 telephone interfaces. SolaCom will deliver and install the system, as well as provide factory and site training for all air traffic control crew. SolaCom has developed a cost-effective, integrated communication solution for small towers that provides all the voice communications, weather and time equipment required by the air traffic controller to effectively and safely provide air traffic separation, says Pierre Plangger, Vice President ATC Sales and Marketing. Our small tower solution was designed with airports like the GAIA in mind. SolaComs team of engineers, technicians and trainers will ensure that this system gets installed on time, to spec, and within budget. The Liberty-STAR VCCS system will include: The Liberty-STAR VCCS system will include: Mission-critical air-ground / ground-ground voice switch Easy-to-use, touch screen operator consoles Integrated weather monitoring console Sensors and antenna Record and playback software System configuration tool GPS The weather information is provided with an ATC-focused weather monitoring software package. Large displays, charts and dials allow operators to observe current conditions in real-time. Weather data most needed by operators is provided, including wind speed, wind direction, temperature, dew point, atmospheric pressure and altimeter setting. The SolaCom recorder is a 72-port recording solution (with an optional T1 interface). A 10-segment VU-meter is provided for each channel to allow quick visual indication of call activity. An internal monitoring system with speakers lets operators listen to live audio while recording. Grantley Adams International Airport is located about 30 minutes from Bridgetown and plays an important role as a vital center and link for international air traffic in the Eastern Caribbean region. The airport recently completed a $100-million dollar upgrade and expansion that will see the airports annual passenger capacity exceed 2.5 million people. Airport modernization was a critical step for the country as it competes with other Caribbean islands in the region. The Liberty-STAR VCCS is seen as an important component in the airports plan to upgrade and enhance its current operations. The contract is the latest for SolaCom in the area as it continues to grow as the leading supplier of VCCS solutions in the Caribbean and South American regions.
