SolaCom Technologies Signs a Definitive Agreement to Sell its Air Traffic Control Business Unit to Harris Corporation

SolaCom Technologies Inc. headquartered in Gatineau, Quebec, a privately held designer and manufacturer of information and communications technology for the international market, has signed a definitive agreement to sell its Air Traffic Control (ATC) business unit to the Harris Corporation.
SolaCom has been a partner with Harris in many ATC projects and the combined engineering capabilities and product portfolio will offer great benefits to the entire ATC and air traffic management (ATM) market and customer base. This transaction will position SolaCom very well for accelerated growth in our remaining business drivers, which are in the markets of public safety, homeland security, infrastructure protection as well as C4I. The transaction will also offer the vastly increased potential of Harris to our existing ATC customers, of which we are very proud. Weve had a close relationship with Harris Corporation for more than a decade now and we see the new combined entity having a leadership position in the international air traffic control market area, said Franz Plangger, SolaCom CEO. Combining our mission critical voice switching communications products with the Harris reputation as a world-class ATC and ATM systems provider, we create an organization well poised to support next generation transformation goals of our global customer base. This partnership will provide our collective domestic and international customers with highly reliable air traffic control products and services that will lead to a more reliable global network of air traffic control systems, said John OSullivan, Vice President of Mission Critical Communications for Harris Corporation. We could not be more pleased to welcome the SolaCom employees to the Harris family and envision a strong cultural fit of two engineering companies with complementary products and engineering capabilities. Harris is purchasing the ATC product line of SolaCom including the Liberty-STAR Voice Communications System (VCS), which is in use across the globe in some of the harshest environments on the planet, and the IRENA (Integrated Radio Equipment and Network Adaptor) product line which provides aviation authorities with the next generation of Integrated RCE (Radio Control Equipment) as well as network routing and circuit adaptation solutions. The SolaCom acquisition provides Harris the ability to address all segments of the air traffic control voice/data systems market.
