SRA Successfully Completes All Factory Acceptance Tests for the FAAs Low Cost Ground Surveillance Program

The FATs demonstrated to the FAA the operational capabilities of the Terma Scanter 2001 surface movement radar (SMR), as well as the HITT A-3000 ATC Display and Surveillance Data Fusion System. The FAAs LCGS program is a key initiative aimed at reducing the number and severity of runway incursion incidents at small- to medium-sized airports in the National Airspace System (NAS) where current generation airport surface detection equipment (ASDE-X) is too expensive to deploy. LCGS offers an added layer of safety by providing basic ground surveillance information on aircraft and vehicles operating on runways and adjacent taxiways. The FAT for the LCGS system was completed to the full satisfaction of the FAA -- three weeks ahead of the original schedule, said SRA Vice President Jack Nager. SRA understands airport surveillance technologies, and provides the experience and skills needed to deploy an affordable LCGS solution to multiple airports in a timely manner. SRAs proven and mature LCGS solution will provide the FAA with a scalable, modular and adaptable surveillance platform that can accommodate varying airport sizes and runway configurations in all weather conditions, said Era Systems Corporation Vice President Bernard Asare. SRAs LCGS solution can be easily and cost-effectively expanded to incorporate additional next-generation surveillance and air traffic management technologies, such as ADS-B, traffic information system-broadcast (TIS-B), airfield lighting control systems and multilateration surveillance. SRAs LCGS system will be installed at the Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport in California and is scheduled to begin evaluation in March 2010.
