StarCaster ATIS Goes Live at the NASA Wallops Flight Facility

- Victoria B.C. Canada.

STR-SpeechTech Ltd. has completed the installation of a new StarCaster® ATIS System for the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) at the Wallops Flight Facility Airport in Virginia, U.S.A. The Wallops Flight Facility, established in 1945, is operated by the Goddard Space Flight Center as a rocket launch site for NASA and other U.S. Federal agencies.

The new StarCaster ATIS System at Wallops Flight Facility Airport provides standard ATIS information to pilots, including weather and runways in use. It also provides special Flight Advisory information about scheduled range rocket exercises.

“This is the first StarCaster ATIS system implemented at a NASA facility,” said Dr. Stephen Eady (Vice-President of STR-SpeechTech Ltd). “We are very pleased to work with NASA to provide an ATIS solution that fits the special needs of their airport at Wallops Flight Facility.”

The StarCaster ATIS System that was delivered to NASA consists of a single workstation configuration that interfaces directly with an existing ASOS weather data source. The ASOS provides current weather data for inclusion in the ATIS messages.

In addition to installation and site acceptance testing of the new ATIS system, STR also provided training to NASA Air Traffic Controllers and Technical Maintenance personnel.

The new StarCaster ATIS system at Wallops is now fully operational and provides important information to aircraft at or in the vicinity of this NASA Flight Facility.
