Thales ATC radar inaugurated by Georgian President Saakashvili

Mikheil Saakashvili President of Georgia and Thierry Mariani, French Secretary of State responsible for Transport, inaugurated the Thales Monopulse Secondary Surveillance Radar (MSSR) system installed at the Poti Airport in Georgia.
The implementation of this advanced technology radar system including full Mode S compliance will provide complete airspace security for western Georgia in conformity with European standards.

This new radar will improve the security of the Georgian skies, increase safety, capacity and efficiency and is key to supporting the future challenges in terms of air traffic, said Giorgi Karbelashvili Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. The inauguration is an important milestone in the modernisation of the countrys ATC systems.

We are proud to have once again worked closely and successfully with Sakaeronavigatsia, said Jean-Marc Budin, Thales VP, Marketing and Sales for the Air Operations business, "During the past couple of years, Thales has supplied a total of three ATC radars to Georgia, making Thales a major provider of Air Traffic Control systems in the country.

In 2010, Sakaeronavigatsia and Thales have signed a contract for the maintenance of these three ATC radars. This contract will ensure the best operational availability of the systems during the next five years.
