The 2nd International Symposium on Air Traffic Management for Civil Aviation was successfully held in Beijing from September 15th - 16th. The forum was hosted by Technical Committee of Avionics and Air Traffic Management, CSAA; Co-organized by Civil Aviation University of China, CAAC Key Laboratory of General Aviation Operation; Organized by CETC LES Information System Co., Ltd., State Key Laboratory of Air Traffic Management System and Technology, Beihang University, China Mobile Communications Corporation, Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., and Galleon (Shanghai) Consulting Co., Ltd.etc.

In recent years, digital technology has penetrated into various industrial chains, and the application in the aviation field is worthy of further discussion. Mr. Chen Zhijie, Director and Researcher of National Airspace Technology Key Laboratory and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed out that digital technology will be helpful in reshaping the future national airspace system and establishing a new air traffic management mode, which will help to achieve the management of airspace and high-quality allocation of resources.

Li Qiguo, the Senior Leadership of Air Traffic Management Bureau of CAAC, responded to the contradiction that there are many restrictions on airspace management and it is difficult for technological development to break through policy barriers, proposed by Chen Zhijie. He indicated that the following ATM plan will be drafted under the guidance of the policy, and the Bureau will actively build the basic framework of smart ATM system supported by the latest technology, so that the policy can meet the social needs, as well as all parties should collaborate and innovate to seek a new chapter in the development of smart air traffic control.

The digital development of airspace system technology will inevitably lead the future of air traffic control to intelligent operation. Liang Xiaopeng, Deputy Director of Safety and Flight Operations, North Asia, IATA, predicted that the future development of air traffic control will unite air traffic control, airlines, airports and other related parties to establish a unified basic air traffic situation, so that achieve refined flight operation and improve ATM system operation guarantee capability and efficiency.

The two-day forum was held successfully. The attendees discussed how to push ATM system into a broader field of innovation, build an internationally competitive ATM ecosystem, and discuss the future development of smart ATM system as a key strategic issue. The purpose of this forum is to promote the future of ATM toward refined and technological development through cooperation and exchanges. The guests actively interacted and received enthusiastic responses.
