The first ATM systems totally supplied by SELEX Sistemi Integrati now operational

SELEX Sistemi Integrati, a Finmeccanica company, has recently inaugurated to the commercial traffic the two new Indian airports in Hyderabad e Bangalore, as the final act of a contract, worth 22 million Euros, the company signed in 2007 for the total supply of two complete airport ATC systems.
For the Finmeccanica company the completion of the supply within the contract timing has been a won challenge both for the very tight delivering times and for the systems complexity. The adoption of the new ATM systems will permit the Indian Airport Authority to control most of the airspace of central India, and manage the approach navigation of two of the most important airports in the Country in terms of passengers and goods traffic. The supplied equipments represent the last generation of products by SELEX Sistemi Integrati for air traffic management and control, as for functions and systems architecture. In fact, they are based on several redundancy levels to guarantee the highest level of reliability and to allow higher automation in air traffic management, also allowing a better coordination between civil and military traffic. For each of the two airports the delivered equipments, which will permit to operate according ICAO rules, are represented by 36 operational positions, a primary and secondary radar (S mode), a control tower. There also are two remote towers installed within military sites. In the supply SELEX Sistemi Integrati has also included an approach system, an AMSS system for aircraft data, an Aeronautical Information Service (AIS) system, a D-ATIS (Digital ATIS), providing meteorological bulletins along the air way. Other systems provided are: a VHF system for the land-air- land connection, a Voice Communications System (VCSS), several operational posts for ARO (ATIS Reporting Office). Finally, all equipments are provided with navaids (VOR, DVOR, DME e ILS) by the American subsidiary SELEX Sistemi Integrati inc. Besides, Hyderabad airport has also been equipped with an Area Control Centre (ACC). Since the very first hours of the new airports operation, the Indian Airport Authority expressed its satisfaction for the quality of the activities developed by SELEX Sistemi Integrati and the good results of the tricky and rapid transfer of air traffic from the old to the new airport sites.
