UK Airprox Board Publishes Eighteenth Report

The eighteenth report of the UK Airprox Board (UKAB) was published today. It covers the 75 incidents reported by pilots and air traffic controllers between January and June 2007 that were subject to full investigation.
The total of 75 Airprox incidents during the first six months of 2007 was 16 fewer than the average of comparable figures in each of the previous five years. Of the 75 incidents, 35 involved at least one commercial air transport aircraft but only two were judged as risk-bearing. This compares with the five risk-bearing incidents involving at least one commercial air transport aircraft recorded during the same period in 2006. UKAB reports, produced jointly for the Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority and the Chief of the Air Staff, Royal Air Force, are principally aimed at UK pilots and air traffic controllers, both civil and military. The purpose of the reports is to promote air safety awareness and understanding by identifying and sharing the lessons arising from UK Airprox incidents. Todays report is available on the UKAB website www.airproxboard.org.uk The bi-annual UKAB reports continue to be distributed in hardcopy and CD format.
