Zaragoza Airport turns to the next generation of FREQUENTIS VCS backup systems

Frequentis and INSTER have installed an innovative IP-based backup system for the voice communication system (VCS) at Zaragoza Airport, Spain. The integrated, yet self-contained, backup application uses proven components within a completely new system architecture. With an IP-based approach and radio equipments fully independent of the main VCS and main existing radios, the system ensures a new level of future-proof reliability.
New EUROCAE standards demand future voice communication systems use an IP approach. This applies equally to backup systems. Frequentis first developed an integrated IP-based backup in the 6.1 release of its popular 3020X VCS. This innovative backup product is now available as a standalone application.

New system is already in use
Together with its Spanish partner, INSTER, Frequentis recently integrated a new 2-position backup system with space-saving 8 touch panels into the existing VCS at Zaragoza Airport This represents the companys first ED-137 compliant IP technology for AENA, Spains air navigation service provider.

Self-contained and user-friendly
The standalone fully IP-based backup system is a self-contained VCS application which follows the requirements of the EUROCAE working group 67 stated in document ED 137. Whereas the IP infrastructure is entirely independent: should the main VCS suffer a partial or complete failure, the operator maintains access to radio and telephone resources and all key ATC functions.

Future-proof reliability
The new solution represents the next generation of VCS backup systems, with IP-based access to emergency radios a key requirement of the EUROCAE WG67 documents (ED137). The system architecture is completely new, but uses components that have proved to be highly reliable within the integrated Frequentis VCS 3020X systems used all over the worldfrom small towers to large ACCs.

Frequentis has always prided itself on developing ground-breaking technology, and the new IP-based VCS backup system continues this tradition, says Hannes Bardach, Frequentis CEO. Were thrilled at the positive response this new addition to our product portfolio has received from clients like AENA.
