Egis celebrates 50 years of dedication to aviation – by investing in the next generation of experts

- Madrid, Spain

For 50 years Egis has been dedicated to ensuring safe, seamless and sustainable aviation for all who fly. Providing innovative consultancy, design and engineering solutions to institutions, ANSPs, airport operators, and airlines through almost every significant change in the industry.

To celebrate this milestone anniversary Egis will award one scholarship per year over the next five years to students studying an aviation related degree in some of its key regions: Europe, Africa, Middle East, Asia and South America – helping to enable the next generation of aviation professionals. The first scholarship will be awarded this year in France through Ecole Nationale de l’Aviation Civile (ENAC), as this is where Egis’ story began.

Cedric Barbier, Aviation Executive Director, Egis said: “50 Years of dedication to the aviation industry is a special achievement, made possible by our staff’s passion, expertise and shared vision to enable a safe, seamless and sustainable aviation industry for all who use it. Our people are at the heart of our organisation, so what better way to celebrate this anniversary than supporting the next generation of aviation leaders in their education."

Throughout our history we have prided ourselves on our ability to help customers turn complex challenges into tangible solutions. We have worked on some of the most high profile and interesting projects in aviation, such as the implementation of the Single European Sky, designing infrastructure and advising airports before international events that enable thousands of people to travel such as the Olympic Games and the Africa World Cup, and enabling performance improvements at some of the world’s busiest and most complex airports (for example: Dubai, London Gatwick or Heathrow airports…).
Today, we are working to enable the integration of new entrants such as drones, but we have never forgotten our roots and are equally as proud of our teams delivering innovative solutions to provide safe and reliable connectivity to some of the world’s more remote communities.

Egis’ aviation story started in 1969 when Sofreavia (a publicly owned company) was created toEGIS 50 years support airport infrastructure development projects in Africa. 50 years on, Egis boasts one of the largest dedicated aviation teams in the industry comprising 300 consultants, engineers and experts based globally who help shape aviation policy, design and build major aviation infrastructure and operate 16 airports.

Barbier adds “Aviation is at an exciting point in its history; new entrants want to make use of airspace, automation is on the rise and new technologies and business models may revolutionise the way we work. However, the industry is not without its challenges. Aviation will remain the fastest way to connect people, but it will have to do so in a more responsible way and must be considered as part of a wider vision of smarter urban integration and mobility. Whatever the future holds, Egis will be at the forefront, helping our customers solve the complex issues of tomorrow - transforming the skies and the built environment to create a better future for all.”
