Entry Point North is transforming ATC Basic training with Online training options
In the last years Entry Point North has developed a sought-after Online training option for ATC Basic Theory. Basic ATC Theory Online is now in its fourth delivery, with another 23 ATCO students building a shared foundation in a six-week online theory phase ahead of simulator training. The programme provides the full theory phase of Basic ATC in an Online format with live guided sessions and is designed to prepare learners before they enter the simulator.
Across Europe, ANSPs are under pressure to train more controllers within tighter planning windows while keeping quality and regulatory compliance in place. Basic ATC Theory Online is designed to respond to that reality. It delivers a structured theory phase with live instructor guidance and continuous follow ups.
Several ANSPs have shown great interest in the new delivery format, and both Naviair and HungaroControl are currently partnering with Entry Point North on Basic ATC Theory Online for their ATCO students. The training is aligned with Commission Regulation (EU) 2015/340 and follows Entry Point North’s Initial Training syllabus. It covers nine subjects, including Meteorology, Navigation, ATC Law, Air Traffic Management, Human Factors and Professional Environment. The goal is for learners to bring a clear and shared theoretical foundation into simulator training.
“As organisations move more training online, some ANSPs worry that theory in an online format will weaken motivation and team cohesion. What we see is the opposite. With live sessions and structured collaboration, groups build momentum and a sense of team early, before they even enter the simulator,” says Nilla Lundin, Business Innovation Director at Entry Point North.
Learner feedback: clear, supportive and engaging
Recent learner feedback points to three main strengths of Basic ATC Theory Online: clear learning materials, strong instructor presence and flexibility in how learners organise their study time. One participant described the material as “created in a clear way with great animations and videos. It gave a real experience.” Another highlighted that “live guidance sessions were extremely helpful in organising my knowledge and keeping me moving forward.” Learners also emphasised that being able to plan their own study time, with support available when needed, helped them build confidence step by step. Overall, the feedback shows that the programme helps students feel supported, stay on track and arrive at simulator training with a solid, shared foundation.
Supporting training pipelines
By moving the Basic ATC theory phase online with strong instructional support, Naviair and HungaroControl can ease planning, reduce travel and still maintain a consistent level of quality and readiness before simulator training. For ANSPs, Basic ATC Theory Online offers a modern training option that creates a clear link between theory, simulation and later operational training.
