The International Air Transport Association (IATA) renewed its call for government relief measures as the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis in MENA deepen. The region’s airlines could lose $24 billion of passenger revenue compared to 2019. That is $5 billion more than was expected at the beginning of the month. Job losses in aviation and related industries could grow to 1.2 million. That is half of the region’s 2.4 million aviation-related employment. Previous estimate was 0.9 million.
Geneva - The International Air Transport Association strengthened its call for urgent action from governments in Africa and the Middle East to provide financial relief to airlines as the latest IATA scenario for potential revenue loss by carriers in Africa and the Middle East reached US$23 billion (US$19 billion in the Middle East and US$4 billion in Africa). This translates into a drop of industry revenues of 32% for Africa and 39% for the Middle East for 2020 as compared to 2019. Some of the impacts at national level include: Saudi Arabia 26.

The Saudi Air Navigation Services Co. (SANS) has chosen Frequentis to provide a deployable mobile tower to support its air traffic control (ATC) modernisation program. Initially one mobile tower container will be provided, allowing SANS the flexibility to operate the mobile tower as a contingency solution or during any update work. The mobile tower for SANS will include the Frequentis Voice Communication System, VCS3020X, and provide integration with legacy systems.
Saudi Air Navigation Services (SANS) celebrated last week the ppointment and start of work of the first batch of Saudi female air traffic controllers at an air traffic control center in Jeddah. Eleven women completed a one-year program conducted by SANS in cooperation with the Saudi Academy of Civil Aviation. This is the first program to qualify women to work as air traffic controllers. The initiative between SANS and the academy, seeks to create more jobs for women as part of a reform push to wean the economy off oil as Vision 2030 plan aims to increase employment and diversify revenue …
